Extracurricular

Sports

The purpose of the Athletic Department is to model and teach our students about Christ-honoring competition and expose them to the world of school-sponsored competitive sports. Golden Hills Christian School offers a number of sports including basketball (boys and girls), volleyball (girls in the fall & coed in the spring), boy’s flag football, 6-on-6 soccer (coed), and cheerleading. We currently belong to the San Joaquin County Christian Athletic League.

Music

The kindergarten through second grade attend music class one day per week for 30 minutes. These classes use rhythm sticks to develop rhythm skills, learn basic note recognition, and tonality. The third through fifth grades have music class once per week for 45 minutes. These students continue learning rhythm and tonality as well as vocal placement and instrumentation and are taught to play the recorder. Each grade performs a musical in a chapel, preparing for the performance during music class. Fifth through eighth grade students have the opportunity to participate in the band program. Two band concerts are performed during the school year.

Art

The art program at GHCS introduces the students in the second through eighth grades to many of the concepts of art. These classes are held once per week. The program includes artistic perception such as observational skills as well as creative expression. The main focus each week includes some or all of the elements of art. All grades participate in age-appropriate projects that are designed to be challenging and to develop a sense of accomplishment in the students. Projects include basic drawing, collage, painting, and perspective drawing. We also participate in the ACSI Art Festival. Kindergarten and first grade do not participate in the school-wide art program as their art is incorporated into their curriculum.

Field Trips

From the pumpkin patch to 49er Camp, to the zoo to Washington DC, each grade participates in age-appropriate field trips to promote and enhance their curriculum.

Student Activities

Throughout the year our students have a variety of opportunities to further enhance their education such as participating in Speech Meets, Spelling Bees, Science Fairs, and Art Festivals.
