An Average Day

For a GHCS Student

Parents may drop off their student(s) no earlier than 8:00 AM. Classroom time begins at 8:15 AM. Early arrivals (before 8:15 AM & weather permitting) gather for play in the designated playground.

The elementary grades, K-5, participate in a daily opening exercise (except for Wednesday, our chapel day) of worshipping together, praying together and celebrating birthdays.

Kindergarteners attend GHCS daily from 8:15 A.M. to 1:50 P.M. where they enjoy their own play yard and restrooms. The academic program is designed to fully prepare students for success in the elementary grades. The kindergarten curriculum emphasizes a strong phonics program in addition to writing, counting, scripture memorization, music, and art. GHCS encourages students to develop positive social skills and biblical character traits which are recognized monthly during chapel.

During the year, kindergarten students enjoy a variety of special holiday activities as well as celebrations for the 100thDay of School, Dr. Seuss Day, Kite Day, Dads and Doughnuts Day, Grandparents’ Day, and the Mother’s Day Tea.

GHCS kindergarten students enjoy lunchtime on the kindergarten playground, consisting of 20 minutes to eat and 20 minutes to play. Students bring their own lunches each day as GHCS does not operate a cafeteria. Accommodations are made for students with food allergies. Parents/guardians may bring a hot lunch for their student by coming to the downstairs office and signing in. They may wait for their student to come downstairs for lunch, or they may drop it off for their student to pick up later.

Our dismissal times are varied to provide optimum classroom time and efficiency in the pick-up line.

GHCS elementary students engage in a rigorous academic program, designed to build upon the skills and concepts acquired in the previous year. In the core subject of language, students progress from acquiring solid reading and writing skills to implementing those skills in researching topics and writing a variety of reports. In math, students first develop basic skills mastery and later learn to apply important math concepts.

The spiritual growth of students is a primary focus of GHCS. During Bible class, elementary students learn important spiritual truths, and Scripture memorization is an integral part of the Bible program. GHCS encourages students to develop positive social skills and biblical character traits which are recognized monthly during chapel.

An exciting highlight of the elementary program is the 4thgrade study of California history which includes building a model of a California mission, and participating in an overnight trip to 49’er Camp to study the California Gold Rush.

It is our desire that GHCS Middle School students are prepared and equipped to be successful in all aspects of their future high school experience, and our curriculum reflects this desire. GHCS offers a well-rounded, biblically-based middle school education with students taking classes in Bible, English, math, science, history, and physical education. In addition to these core subjects, students engage in classes to learn computer skills, fine art, life skills, and foreign language. They also may choose to participate in such activities as the ACSI Science Fair, Spelling Bee, Speech Meet, and Creative Writing Festival. The academic achievements of our middle school students are recognized in a quarterly honor roll.

GHCS Middle School students have the opportunity to participate in some exciting and educational events. Students begin the year with a much-anticipated rafting trip on the American River in Sacramento. It is a valuable time of fellowship and connecting for the students, parents, and teachers. In the spring, our 6th grade students spend an enjoyable week away at Outdoor Education, and our 8thgrade students experience an exciting and inspiring trip to Washington, D.C.

GHCS Middle School also offers challenging and enjoyable extracurricular activities. Among these are beginning and advanced band, student leadership, and a variety of sports team opportunities through our sports program.
